ABOUT CONSUL MIKO

Jason Miko brings over twenty years of experience in public relations, communications, management, economic development, public affairs, lobbying and humanitarian work to the table.  Having lived overseas and traveled extensively, he also possesses a broad understanding of different cultures and communities.

In his professional career, Jason spent seven years working in Washington, DC in professional party politics and with Ruder Finn, an independent public relations firm, where he represented clients in the Balkans in areas of public policy and travel and tourism.  From Washington, DC Jason moved to Macedonia where he lived and worked seven years, five of them with Mercy Corps, a Portland, Oregon-based humanitarian and developmental organization, as both communications officer and then country director.  He also served as executive director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Macedonia and as the first executive director of the Boris Trajkovski International Foundation.

He has worked with Barbour, Griffith & Rogers, Quinn Gillespie & Associates and the Laurus Group, LLC in Washington, DC, representing clients in Macedonia, Bulgaria and Ukraine in a variety of areas. He currently works with Russell Public Communications in Tucson, Arizona, as Director of Account Service.

A native Arizonan, Jason graduated from the University of Arizona with a B. S. in Business Administration and currently resides in Oro Valley, Arizona.

Jason has traveled to 50 countries and lived a quarter of his life overseas.  In 2008/9 he produced a documentary film on Macedonia titled A Name is a Name and he currently writes weekly columns for Macedonian daily Dnevnik. He serves as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Macedonia to Arizona and sits on several boards in both Arizona and Macedonia. He enjoys music, travel, history, creative writing, hiking, jogging, swimming, reading, fine wine, craft beer and general geo-political discussions.
