ABOUT CONSUL HORCHEM
Bogumil Mikolaj Horchem and his wife Elizabeth moved to Arizona from CT and IL nearly 36 years ago. They have two sons, three daughters and eight grandchildren who reside in Arizona. Bogumil was born in Torun Poland (birth place of Nicholas Copernicus the astronomer).
In 1964, he graduated from Teacher College in Poland and in 1965 immigrated to the United States. In 1976, he moved to Phoenix Arizona and in 1985 graduated from ASU with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He worked for Garrett (presently Honeywell Aerospace). In 1992, he joined the Knights of Columbus in Fountain Hills, AZ. Bogumil and Elizabeth are both very active in Polish organizations. Elizabeth was founding director of the first Polish Language School in Arizona. Bogumil was a teacher at John Paul II Polish Language School. His class was the first to graduate from High School.
He is a member and Chairman of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church Council. From 2005-2009 President of Polish American Congress, Arizona Division. During his term as president of the Polish American Congress Arizona Division in 2007, the Visa Waiver Resolution was introduced by John Kavanagh, Arizona House Representative, District #8, and unanimously passed both the Arizona House and Senate in support of Poland being admitted to the Visa Waiver Program of the United States Department of State.
In 2007 Polish American Congress recognized and honored those imprisoned and who endured hardships in Siberia, Russia during World War II, by presenting them with the Krzyz Zeslancow na Sybir medal.
In 2007-2009 he organized and oversaw the building of the statue of Blessed Pope John II, at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.
Bogumil is very proud to be of service to Poland and Poles.
